The God-Given Mission of the Church

Unfortunately, too many Christians have become fascinated, infatuated and captivated by what is going on in the world, and have lost sight of the God-given mission of the church.  Our battered, bruised and broken world, with its multiple evils, retards progress by spilling the blood of our finest youth in the trenches and ditches on the battlefield of the world. While the bones of our sons decay at the bottom of every sea, we are bragging about living in the atomic age, television environment, and jet society.

Every child of God needs to be still and know that the hand of God is still controlling the steering wheel of history and see the divine imperativeness of the Great Commission and go everywhere preaching Jesus.

These marching orders from King Jesus fell from the lips of our resurrected Lord between his glorious resurrection and spectacular ascension.  This is the last command that He gave to his followers.  This command supersedes all others. Hence, we must not persist in building altars, killing sacrifices, preparing feasts, tracing genealogies.

We have more recent orders, world-wide orders: “Go ye into all the world…”  This is the only plan that Jesus left in this world to establish His church and save the world from sin; and this is the first business of the church. (Mark 16:15,16)

Go!

GO means to set out, start, depart, to take one’s way or to pursue a journey.  Go is a command of unerring wisdom.  These are not the words from some fresh, uninformed optimist, but are the words of the one who scooped out the sea with the palm of his hand; dug deep gorges, piled up the hills, popped up the mountains by His will. He was there when the dust was sifted from which man was made.  He was there when the breath of God was given to man and this lump of dust became a living soul. Therefore he knows man’s capacity, his inclinations, and how he will react under circumstances.  With all this information about man, Jesus catalogued him as a creature who should be sought, wooed, entreated and one after whom someone who have to GO.  Go is the obligation of the saved.
